...so I've had a backyard visitor of late when I'm out there doing some reading or journaling. He's not been real afraid of me (honestly, I think I might be in his spot, as I found some deer hair in the mulch next to my spot). He usually just wanders out of the woods and up toward me ... all by his lonesome. I'm hoping mom or pop's hiding out in the woods still, but he's been coming alone. I was cleaning my camera out there recently when he came back ... so I snapped some.

Summer School: Student Shots (...last round)

...so I'm not really sure how much longer my district will have a summer school program. Missouri cut summer school funding this past spring by something like $100 million, so districts left and right were cutting programs. We kept ours ... but who knows what that means for next year. One of the things I love about our program is that it gives kids exposure to new things and a chance to learn things that don't always fit into the traditional school-year curriculum (...and at a very, very, very cheap cost, I might add). All that to say -- I hope we keep it. It's been an enjoyable experience for me for the past few years ... the kids impress me over and over again with their creativity, desire to learn, and photographic skill. ...I'm guessing there's something fun about bein' a little girl and wearing fun dresses. The twirling ... the playing with them ... the feeling beautiful ... maybe the feelings and hopes that come with it. To be honest, all that is just a guess -- but judging by some of the younger girls and the dresses they sometimes wear for photo shoots and how much fun they seem to have with them, maybe they are just fun to wear. ...so I'm teaching a photography class for middle schoolers this summer. This is my 4th summer (5th maybe?) doing so ... and each summer I get more and more impressed and encouraged by what they can do. Each week they participate in a few different competitions where they've gotta create and capture photos that meet certain criteria (water, perspective, bubbles, flowers, etc.). They've gotta capture things in different ways ... from different angles ... taking into account all those things that make for good photos. All that to say, we're working at it. They're great kiddos with great futures so here's a few of their pics so far:

...so Jack just wrapped up his senior year recently. He's been a successful student, athlete, and leader ... and now he's taking his talents to the collegiate level. ...so we had a gorgeous fall morning a few weeks back when I shot some pics of Anna & Julia. They were a little shy at first but they warmed up to the camera in no time at all. We had a good time. ...so my school's choir sang the National Anthem last weekend at the Cards-Braves game. They did awesome (the choir, that is -- the Cards, on the other hand, lost 1-0). They let me join them to snap a few pics of the experience ... which I was more than content to do. A few things I learned from the experience: (1) you don't get a whole lotta time out there ... (2) don't step on the grass -- they yell at you if you do ... and (3) it was pretty sweet.
